About Me

This Layer Cake Life is mine, but my blog and the work that I do also reflect my family’s experiences and how we get through the days, months, and years with a little extra effort and creativity.

Who am I?

I’m a parent of two amazing kids. One kid has a host of food allergies and other much nastier life-shaping and life-threatening conditions. These conditions shape our lives as a family and have completely altered my experience of the world as a grown-up human.

Our youngest child has been busting her butt through a range of therapies and treatments since she was a toddler. We, as a family, have learned to laugh and cry and manage the medical and life complexities that go along with all her conditions. She is a kid who dances through hell and still finds joy. We learn with her and from the world and people her life touches. We think we’re doing pretty well.

What’s the deal?

I’m the front line on managing most things kid and family and recovery related.

But…I’m not an expert in anything except my kid and our experiences.

If you have questions or concerns (about any of the conditions I talk about or about similar concerns in your own life) please contact a trained medical professional.

If you’re in the midst of any of this yourself, or if you’re a friend, family member, colleague, or educator of someone who is, I’d love to hear from you about your experiences.

Thanks for reading,

Katy
